Tomorrow I leave to Taiwan, yet, it's the first time I drag going. I've been avoiding my blog, I haven't had the desire to write anything. It's been a couple of weeks since my grandfather passed. Friday is the funeral, and the burial is a week later. There's a ritual which I have no idea what to expect but to experience it once I'm there. I realized, I've been working non stop, creating while mourning. Just creating because it makes me feel better. I wonder why no one ever taught me how to mourn or even talked about it. Anyways, now that I am getting ready to fly the 14 hour flight, I thought I'd share some of the things I've made.

I will not be shipping during 5.25.10-5.28.10. There will be delays with emails but I will respond as soon as I can. My return date is TBD. Gotta go pack, enjoy! Love ~ R

I came across a new blog today "It's A Love Story", the first reading caught my attention, "Being a mother is hard."

The funny thing is, I felt and understood exactly what Alexa was writing about. I guess that's how I feel towards my two babies. Ronni just turned 15 years old and Custo is over 5.5 years old.

Anyway, a beautiful quote by Mother Teresa caught my attention shortly and I had to share it here...

I have been back from Taiwan for 2 weeks now, my grandfather was out of the intensive care but he is now back in the hospital. I have been reading, studying, and chanting. Today, the mother of a good friend has passed this morning and it's also her due date for her baby boy. The baby hasn't arrived yet, but soon. I was really sad, especially my experiences in this past month. But this is life, there are joyful moments and unpleasant moments. I found an article written by my mentor Daisaku Ikeda on this subject and it is truly heart warming. Here it is:

Death is something no one can escape from. It follows life as surely as night follows day, winter follows autumn or old age follows youth. People make preparations so that they won't suffer when winter comes. They prepare so they won't have to suffer in their old age. Yet how few people prepare for the even greater certainty of death!

Modern society has turned its gaze away from this most fundamental issue. For most people, death is something to be feared, to be dreaded, or it is seen as just the absence of life - blankness and void. Death has even come to be considered somehow "unnatural."

What is death? What becomes of us after we die? We can try to ignore these questions. Many people do. But if we ignore death, I believe that we are condemned to live a shallow existence, to live "hand to mouth" spiritually. We may assure ourselves that we will somehow deal with death "when the time comes." Some people keep busily engaged in a constant stream of tasks in order to avoid thinking about the fundamental issues of life and death. But in such a state of mind, the joys we feel will ultimately be fragile, shadowed by the inescapable presence of death. It is my firm belief that facing the issue of death can help bring real stability, peace and depth to our lives.

What, then, is death? Is it just extinction, a lapse into nothingness? Or is it the doorway to new life, a transformation rather than an ending? Is life nothing more than a fleeting phase of activity preceded and followed by stillness and nonexistence? Or does it have a deeper continuity, persisting beyond death in some form or other?

Buddhism views the idea that our lives end with death as a serious delusion. It sees everything in the universe, everything that happens, as part of a vast living web of interconnection. The vibrant energy we call life which flows throughout the universe has no beginning and no end. Life is a continuous, dynamic process of change. Why then should human life be the one exception? Why should our existence be an arbitrary, one-shot deal, disconnected from the universal rhythms of life?

We now know that stars and galaxies are born, live out their natural span, and die. What applies to the vast realities of the universe applies equally to the miniature realms of our bodies. From a purely physical perspective, our bodies are composed of the same materials and chemical compounds as the distant galaxies. In this sense we are quite literally children of the stars.

The human body consists of some 60 trillion individual cells, and life is the vital force that harmonizes the infinitely complex functioning of this mind-boggling number of individual cells. Each moment, untold numbers of cells are dying and being replaced by the birth of new cells. At this level, daily we experience the cycles of birth and death.

On a very practical level, death is necessary. If people lived forever, they would eventually start to long for death. Without death, we would face a whole new array of problems--from overpopulation to people having to live forever in aged bodies. Death makes room for renewal and regeneration.

Death should therefore be appreciated, like life, as a blessing. Buddhism views death as a period of rest, like sleep, by which life regains energy and prepares for new cycles of living. Thus there is no reason to fear death, to hate or seek to banish it from our minds.

Death does not discriminate; it strips of us everything. Fame, wealth and power are all useless in the unadorned reality of the final moments of life. When the time comes, we will have only ourselves to rely on. This is a solemn confrontation that we must face armed only with our raw humanity, the actual record of what we have done, how we have chosen to live our lives, asking, "Have I lived true to myself? What have I contributed to the world? What are my satisfactions or regrets."

To die well, one must have lived well. For those who have lived true to their convictions, who have worked to bring happiness to others, death can come as a comforting rest, like the well-earned sleep that follows a day of enjoyable exertion.

I was impressed a few years ago to learn of the attitude of a friend of mine, David Norton, professor of philosophy at the University of Delaware, toward his own approaching death.

When he was only seventeen, the young David had become a "smoke jumper," a volunteer fire fighter who parachuted into inaccessible areas to cut trees and dig trenches to keep fires from spreading. He did this, he said, in order to learn to face his own fear.

When, in his mid sixties, he was diagnosed with advanced cancer, he faced death head-on and found that the pain did not defeat him. Nor did he find dying a lonely or solitary experience, according to his wife, Mary. She later told me that he felt he was surrounded by all his friends and said that her husband had faced death without fear, regarding it as "another adventure; the same kind of test as facing a forest fire."

"I guess the first thing about such an adventure," Mary said, "is that it's an opportunity to challenge yourself. It's getting yourself out of situations that are comfortable, where you know what goes, and where you don't have to worry. It's an opportunity to grow. It's a chance to become what you need to be. But it's one that you must face without fear."

An awareness of death enables us to live each day-each moment-filled with appreciation for the unique opportunity we have to create something of our time on Earth. I believe that in order to enjoy true happiness, we should live each moment as if it were our last. Today will never return. We may speak of the past or of the future, but the only reality we have is that of this present instant. And confronting the reality of death actually enables us to bring unlimited creativity, courage and joy into each instant of our lives."~Daisaku Ikeda

first of all, i want to thank all of those who made a purchase between 1.18.10 ~ 2.24.10 from my grigio and grigiodesign shop on etsy! although sales were slow but i felt the outcome was more than i expected! from grigio, the total sale was $147 and all paid. from grigiodesign, the total sale was $125 with $100 paid. so, $247 was the total sales from both stores and 60% that came out to be $148.20!

i just finished the donation and took a screen shot! see below. once again, lots of thanks to every single person who contributed to this little project! i hope you will enjoy your jewelry and know that part of that money went to Haiti! thank you so much! :) ~rossana

"Who's Your Daddy?" Stan says.

This doll here stands about 8 inches to the top of his hat. His head, hands, shoes are made up of polymer clay, while the reset of his body is made of a wire armature and stuffing. But since he is holding his cane, he really isn't too poseable! His suit, fur coat and fur hat are all hand-sewn by me, myself. He's wearing a small gold-tone chain with a polymer clay pendant in the shape of the Superman symbol, but it stands for Stan the man!

His cane is an eight-ball on top and is entirely made of polymer clay.

I had a REALLY hard time deciding to part with this bracelet. Its completely and utterly amazing! I am sooo tempted to keep it for myself.

Made up of a smooth wide nickel free silver cuff, a large richly detailed sterling silver plated chevron tooling and a huge skull. All of it has been mold to fit together to look like one piece of metal. Its adjustable with some muscle but i wouldn't recommend adjusting it too much. Just enough to get it on and off. Repeated adjustment can make metal brittle over time.

This is a HEAVY bracelet. Its such a statement piece.

This coordinates with all of my other "Bones" pieces for sale in my shop.

Measurements:
Adjusts to fit size 6, 7, 8 or a 9" wrist.

this is an item which i have from BellaLili and i just love it. i love it so much that i finally remember to blog about and show this item. i've had it since this PAST summer. BellaLili makes limited pieces so once the item is gone, it's really gone! the funny thing is, i saw the identical item on etsy the other day. i know, even i have similar items that many other sellers have especially my recent Twilight craze. but in this case, i mean identical in the entire store, including descriptions, almost word for word. i don't know about that...

the knock off bracelet that is on etsy right now is selling for more than BellaLili's original price. it's like an aspired designer who knocks off an item from Marc Jacobs and sells it for more?!?! but people are buying it because they never knew it was designed by BellaLili first.

4 pm - 11 pm

it took ridiculously 2 hours to get into the cemetery. considering, i took short cuts on my exists and streets. next time, i have better ideas on parking!

we were there for almost 2 hours, once it became dark, there just seemed more people! it became hard to see and i didn't want to loose c so eventually we left. i didn't understand how more people showed up after dark, it was quite nice to see things and arts in day light...

the coolest part was...we were on our way out,

this lovely family, mom, dad, and 2 skeletons!

the highlight of our trip was meeting hector silva again. he had a booth there, he was so kind and humble to offer c one of his prints! he kindly encouraged for c to always continue on his drawings! i was floored and didn't know what to say but thanked him as c picked out his favorite piece! we when had met him in whittier 2 weeks ago, even just his words to c, c was already inspired and encouraged. now, so much more.

i'm not sure the title of this piece...tbd (i took this with

my phone, will update with a better one later)

when i was a little, being creative and artistic was a given in our big family so it was expected of us to be able to make things or draw things. encouragements or inspirations didn't exist. i think if i'd meet someone like hector silva, it would mark deep impressions on me and that's so important for young people like c. he's already drawing drawing drawing and asking me if the drawings are better than hector's. i look at them and tell him, he's on the way there but not yet. he needs to practice a lot more!

this original acrylic painting features "michael jackson". i used sequins as part of his shirt. this is my tribute to his legacy. i've loved him since 1986 when i immigrated to the US and i will always love him.

Each piece is hand-formed in durable polymer clay and illustrated in traditional pen and ink by artist and comic creator Calan Ree (creator of GingerDead and Friends). No two pieces are ever exactly the same. The artwork is protected with 2 coats of varnish which adds a nice shine that enhances rather than overpowers or alters the illustration.

The illustrated polymer piece is set inside a brand new silver-toned bottle cap and a silver plated bail is attached for hanging on your favorite necklace. I include a black ball chain which looks really great with the pendant. The chain is snip-to-fit, use ordinary scissors and simply cut to the length you desire. It is 22" long and I personally think the pendant looks best on a short chain so it rests right beneath the throat, but it's up to you!

Artwork is water-resistant but not water or shark proof, so please no bathing or swimming. Avoid mud wrestling, playing in toxic waste or chainsaw juggling to keep your one-of-a-kind art illustrated jewelry in perfect condition. I wouldn't sleep wearing a bottle cap as it can flip over and press against your skin in a pinchy fashion...unless that's your thing of course.:) " ~gingerdead

fall is here, life is just flying by...my babies started school...work is the busiest ever, it's that time of the year...making and designing nearly everyday for the local stores to stock up and up coming shows...never the less, c is playing flag football this season...he had his first touch down on saturday! it was a beautiful day at the park...all the parents and families came out for support...it was a beautiful day :) i think the eagles won :)

"With Halloween on the horizon I've been in a voodoo mood and have fashioned a rainbow of these funky voodoo skull talismans. My muse for each of these talismans was a handmade juju skull in one of the five colors most often used in voodoo rituals.

This voodoo witch-doctor's talisman is wreathed in glass beads and shell shingles. It wears a crown of brass filigree ensconcing a fire-hued flower of czech glass. The filigree designs are reminiscent of the 'veves' used in voodoo rituals. A filigree-embellished jasper diamond hangs from its collar. It hangs from a black acrylic / aluminum chain with a brass lobster claw clasp which measures 18 inches in length." ~hibernacula

brand new calavera hair clips

my baby sister, helped me over the weekend with ALL of these hair clips, from conception! i must say, it's the most time consuming of everything i design or make! not considering a painting...unfortunately, her cold got worst from helping me :(

hand make the skulls, give them a face, bake them, paint them, seal them then glue them to the butterflies...glue them to the flowers...glue flowers on them...glue the clip on the back...

it's not hard at all but making more than a dozen can take a while!!! all of these will be at available at the day of the dead events. i will also be making more if time permits!

i was thinking of yin and yang...then i thought of the devil and the angel inside all of us. they are our best friend and our worst enemy...then i thought of myself...i work with all colors, i design and make so many things with colors, yet i live and dress only in grey, all shades of grey...maybe it's the yin and the yang, to keep myself balanced...otherwise i think i'd go coo-coo!

i finally got this painting, "yellow sickness". i believe it's almost a year old since it was painted. it was actually personally delivered to me by the painter, vale, how nice is that!

so the story is...
this angel became evil and dark because she spent life with this human, the man on the floor. he sucked away all of her positive energies as time went on. the more they lived together, the more she became him, the human. she was no longer angelic nor pure. to a point in their life, she crushed him when he cheated on her by simply leaving him. he dies as she dies, as life is eternal, he remained a human and she became a dark angel. everything dark and evil became beautiful to her because she no longer believed or saw anything the same as the rest of the world. she fell in love with the devil (the human) so she chose to find purity in what humans fear, darkness. their love lives on forever but they are separated due to the stupidity made by that human. as for all those eyes, they are just eyes of the people in this world watching their story.

prep for a batman superhero party

beside my usual busy life...i've been super super super busy the last few weeks, planning for c's first big birthday party...a superhero party. yup, he will be 5 in a few more days. time flashed so much faster when life is busy. he was just born, i promise, i just had a c-section and my doctor had just pulled him out...he was just learning to walk, always falling, always picking on the tiny little stuff (becoming meticulous)...i tell him often that i don't want him to grow...i do, i think all mothers can understand...

i had c dressed in his batman outfit (his pjs) with his cape that i purchased from homemadeheroes as a sample for me to make gazillion more! i then designed a digital photo and gave him a mask because the one that came with the cape was too tiny for c!

this batman pinata is almost as tall as i am! he's been
hanging out in our hall way!

so i cut half of a batman logo on color, in order to cut a full
batman logo on black felt

cutting these were not very fun...

goodie bags!!!

i'm getting anxious as the days are coming closer, all i hope is for everything to go well and for all the children to have a blast!

yes! i treated myself to some heels, it's been over a year since i bought shoes! i've been really good. after my garage sale last summer, i have only a few pair of shoes left. and i notice that if i'm out, i wear my report signature, the black or the grey.

of course, i usually get black and/or grey, since they go with everything...

they are very comfortable considering they range from 4" inches to 4.5" inches. i've even ran in them before! i think it only takes practice and if you believe you love your shoes, you'll find a way to be comfortable in them!

plus, i figured, i would wear these heels for only another decade or so then i'll probably stick with only havianna flip flops. i've tried different heels made by different manufacturers, i must say, report signature is by far the best quality, style, and comfort! (for a good 6 hours)

4:30am led me to a treasury opportunity...i never thought i would be able to snatch one, but i did...my first treasury...

i was seriously tired but i've been having this insomina for at least a week now...

my mind is overloaded. little c's big 5 birthday bash coming up...a few shows coming up locally...side job opportunities...my babies starting their school year in about 2 weeks...the mudslide in taiwan...finishing my office...just to name a few...

i never new insomina can be due to stress, but now i know.

This soap sits in a separate corner of the lab, the other soaps don’t want to go anywhere near it. The rich Matcha Tea scent is said to be mood enhancing, but here at the lab, we genuinely fear finding out which mood will actually be enhanced. These are BIG bars...each one weighs about 6 oz.

Here’s the skinny…

All Darkside Soaps are made using the Cold Process method and cured for a minimum of 4 weeks to ensure a gentle, hard, long-lasting bar.

What’s included?:
You are purchasing one bar of soap, at least 4 oz in size, but since they’re cut in the dark, the actual weight will be closer to 5 oz or 6 oz. These are big bars of soap, with clean finished edges.
Soap will arrive wrapped in a Darkside Soap band. Business card, small print-out of soap description text & free sticker included.

Colors:
Black - may possibly discolor light colored wash cloths. This will not stain skin or affect cleaning abilities. Use of this product may turn your shower into a portal straight to the deepest reaches of hell.

i must admit, being as old as i am, i never knew much about bats until the past few days. (shame on me!!!) reading about them have expanded my knowledge. i was never scared of them nor thought they were harmful except i did have the impression of them being evil, i wonder how.... that was the main reason i had to find out more. i found a site, batworld.org, which provided a whole lot of info about bats. check it out here.
