The Folk Tree's annual easter season exhibition, is on view march 7 - april 12, 2009. latin american religious folk art and artifacts, primarily from mexico, are displayed alongside pieces by area artists that more generally deal with issues concerning "the sacred and the profane" and "good v. evil." approximately thirty artists are included, represented by painting, printmaking, assemblage, cut paper, paper mache, drawing, mixed media, jewelry, and more. the public is invited to a reception on saturday, march 7, from 2 - 6 P.M.

easter is the most important holiday of the festival calendar for many mexican catholics. the abundance of easter and lenten season rituals, such as processions, dances, and other observances are evidence of its significance.

to commemorate this season, the folk tree offers old religious medals and vintage prayer cards from mexico, a wide variety of crosses, our lady of guadalupe pieces by woodcarver eleazar morales, paper mache artist joel garcia, and ceramicist demetrio aguilar (all from Mexico); santos (painted and unpainted wood carvings of saints) from mexico and new mexico; and milagros (miracle offerings).

many area artists are represented as well. participants have or will include ulla anobile (paper mache); robin bevan (paper cutting); winifred brewer, rennie marquez, cathy ashworth (painting); bj christofferson (assemblage); and jewelers alba dandridge, lisa rocha, and stephanie schroeter-frymyer, among others.

the saints & sinners exhibition highlights traditional devotional objects as well as contemporary pieces with symbols of christianity and related themes in both worldly and spiritual contexts. Theists and secularists alike will appreciate the variety of work on view.

i have a painting "pure" (above) or here , cards, prints, magnets, buttons, ornaments (see below), wood earrings at the show all for sale! i'm extremely greatful to gail mishkin of folk tree, giving me this opportunity! yeh!

the painting was done with all metallic acrylic so the digital file does not do justice! even the prints i have are not close at all but i really wanted to paint our lady of guadalupe in metallic! her robe is designed with swarovski rhinestones! it's much nicer in person!

since the theme is sin and sinners, the earrings are not my signature skull earrings, they are mainly our lady of guadalupe!

so if you have some time, please find time and check out the show, there are some amazing art works!
