feature of the week: hibernacula

"red houngan talisman"

"With Halloween on the horizon I've been in a voodoo mood and have fashioned a rainbow of these funky voodoo skull talismans. My muse for each of these talismans was a handmade juju skull in one of the five colors most often used in voodoo rituals.

This voodoo witch-doctor's talisman is wreathed in glass beads and shell shingles. It wears a crown of brass filigree ensconcing a fire-hued flower of czech glass. The filigree designs are reminiscent of the 'veves' used in voodoo rituals. A filigree-embellished jasper diamond hangs from its collar. It hangs from a black acrylic / aluminum chain with a brass lobster claw clasp which measures 18 inches in length." ~hibernacula

brand new calavera hair clips

my baby sister, helped me over the weekend with ALL of these hair clips, from conception! i must say, it's the most time consuming of everything i design or make! not considering a painting...unfortunately, her cold got worst from helping me :(

hand make the skulls, give them a face, bake them, paint them, seal them then glue them to the butterflies...glue them to the flowers...glue flowers on them...glue the clip on the back...

it's not hard at all but making more than a dozen can take a while!!! all of these will be at available at the day of the dead events. i will also be making more if time permits!

dia de los muertos paintings...new!!!

"fridafly"

16 x 20 canvas board
acrylic
9.2009

finally, i finished a few unfinished pieces from few months ago. strangely, i did them in between my studies...for a test...i will disclose it later! don't want to jinx it! all the finished pieces are now available in my etsy shop, here. i pushed myself to get these done due to the up coming day of the dead holiday...so i finished!

"tĂș y yo"

12 x 12 canvas
mixed media
9.2009

i was thinking of yin and yang...then i thought of the devil and the angel inside all of us. they are our best friend and our worst enemy...then i thought of myself...i work with all colors, i design and make so many things with colors, yet i live and dress only in grey, all shades of grey...maybe it's the yin and the yang, to keep myself balanced...otherwise i think i'd go coo-coo!

"frida flor"
11 x 17
100% cotton paper
mixed media
9.2009

i was just playing around with these real nice 100% cotton paper a few months ago...this has been sitting there so i decided to finish it with pantone markers, then i tried acrylic paint, then i tried paint markers, then glitters...

"if"

16 x 20 canvas board
mixed media
9.2009

strictly from my curiosity...my imagination of what the fallen angel could possibly look like and if...he could be a she...if she could carry babies...if she could fly without arms or legs...if if if if if...i truly wonder...

feature of the week: mountainscreamer

"slightly curious bib"

mountainscreamer

"What a little cutie pie this one is! Wear this "bib" to add a touch of sweetness and femininity to any outfit. Looks great over many styles of tops and dresses! Wear it with a button-down as shown or with a scoop neck, or maybe tucked under a jacket or sweater, like a dickie. Would also look perfect as part of a sweet little gothic lolita get-up!

This particular bib is made with black lace as the base (it is see through!), and trimmed with some old salvaged peach lace and a big shabby-chic crushed velvet bow. The bow and its tails are stitched into place to maintain that crumpled look. So darling!

One Size fits all! Ties in the back with a black satin ribbon." ~mountainscreamer
